When acclaimed directors DOM&NIC came to us with Toyota’s latest RAV4 campaign, they brought with them a deceptively simple idea: a little girl who sees her family’s car not as a machine, but as a giant, friendly robot. A companion ready to take her on the adventure of a lifetime.
Bringing that vision to life was anything but simple.
The commercial was shot on location in the stunning landscapes of Slovenia, with the little girl filmed separately on green screen. The core challenge was making these two worlds collide convincingly. Integrating a fully CGI robot into real-world footage, while placing a real child right at the heart of the action. Every interaction between girl and robot demanded precise tracking and meticulous compositing, ensuring she felt truly present in every scene alongside her mechanical friend.
Our team worked across every layer of the pipeline. From the complex rendering and lighting that had to match the natural Slovenian environment, to the final compositing that wove together live action, green screen and CGI into a seamless whole.
The animation of the RAV4 robot was a balancing act all its own. Powerful enough to feel epic, yet warm and expressive enough for audiences to fall in love with it through the eyes of a child.
